Don't Give Up on Your Resolutions!

June 22, 2017

Ah… it’s the last day of January and around the time that many of the well-intended 2017 resolutions are fading fast.  Life got busy and your calendar filled up.  Your 2016 inner voice is coming back stronger than ever telling you: “one little cookie won’t hurt”, “it’s the weekend”, “you can work out harder tomorrow”…  And thus is the human conundrum.

I was doing SO good.

Yeah, well, I was too until I decided to give up for good.  That’s right, I don’t do New Years resolutions anymore.  I was so sick of feeling like a failure around February 1st that I gave up on the idea of setting a resolution to begin with.

I have goals, dreams, aspirations for my future, but they do not include starting on January 1st.  I choose to set a goal and I start whenever I please because then I can start when I am ready to start.

Key word: Ready.

You see, a lot of people feel under the gun to start January 1st or on a Monday which just isn’t realistic because it not only catches us when we may not yet be ready to fully commit but also lets us have a wild time up until then.  Have you ever heard someone say, “I’ll start Monday” and then go completely crazy with their lifestyle?  The fact of the matter is, you have to WANT it and you have to be READY to embrace it.

Now, the action plan is simple, follow these steps and successfully conquer your dreams!

  • Write down your goals, post it where you can see it every day.

  • Once you have everything planned out, get ready to commit!

  • Wake up and START. It doesn’t have to be a Monday, beginning of a month, or hell, even a morning- just do it when you feel ready to DO IT.

  • If you fall, get right back up.  Do not let one mistake throw you off! (I’ll write more about this in another post.)
